About API call billing
Billing is unaffected by response length, chunk count or cache state.
- How is one API call counted?
- One accepted API or MCP query counts as 1 call, regardless of how many chunks or tokens come back.
- Do public libraries have to be bought separately?
- No. Every public library is queryable, and only draws on your plan’s API call allowance.
- What happens when I run out of calls?
- New billable calls pause. Pro users can buy an extra call pack and carry on.
- Do call packs renew automatically?
- No. Each pack adds 5,000 calls once, the balance never expires, and your existing plan is unchanged.
- What are the limits on libraries I create?
- Free allows up to 5 libraries of at most 20 MB each; Pro allows up to 25 libraries of at most 100 MB each.
- Does creating or refreshing a library consume calls?
- Yes, priced from what the build adds: 1 call per successful build, 1 call per 20,000 new tokens, and 1 call per 5 pages fetched for website sources. Calls are debited only when the version publishes; a refresh of an unchanged source, a failed build and a rebuild forced by a platform upgrade cost nothing. The size limit is a ceiling, not an allowance: a full 20 MB library costs roughly 250 calls.
- Can I earn a share from a public library I submit?
- Yes. Public libraries that pass review earn a share of platform revenue based on how often they are successfully retrieved — an initial 20% rate, allocated linearly by call volume rather than weighted by Trust Score. Private and platform-owned libraries do not take part, and the share never changes what you pay as a caller.
